Our Programs

We Got You Covered (WGYC) is a not-for-profit organization
that was developed out of sheer desperation to save lives through literacy.

Boys Walking into their manhood project.

W.G.Y.C. provides an open forum and a safe space for African American boys ages 14-17 to discuss important topics that are pertinent to their development and impact their educational journey through high school. W.G.Y.C. addresses societal issues, school, home, social media, and relationships in conjunction with addressing the appropriateness of how to engage with the opposite sex.

Urban Prep Academy - West Campus

Mr. Martin of Urban Prep Academy for Boys - West Campus requested my presence to speak with his 14-17 year old young men. While WGYC was born out of a need to eradicate illiteracy and act as an agency for change, we are sometimes asked to extend our services beyond our original vision.
In Mr. Martin's words he asked, “In addition to speaking on your program and its intents, can you please shed some light from the perspective of a woman and a police officer on the topics of Sexual Harassment/Abuse, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), the importance of assimilation/code switching, and the "N" word?"
WGYC was pleased to serve.

Black Men Volunteering to HELP African American boys Walk Into Their Manhood

Nicholas Malone is a Chicago Police officer. Additionally he is a doctoral student at DePaul University. Nick shared with the students that, "as a child I moved 10 times and attended 7 different schools while in grammar school. I know the importance of a good education and being a good reader." When Dr. Lloyd asked me to come and speak with these boys I felt compelled to come and talk to them on the importance of not becoming a statistic of their environment. I totally enjoyed the time I spent with them and will come back again.
